Missionary Mums & Getting into College

Hi lovely ladies (and I guess occasional men) :)
I haven't been on this board for a very long time! It's nice to be back.
We have three girls (13, 10 and 8 ) and are in Western Australia.
We have a possible move to Vanuatu to do mission work next year (it's all just 'possible' at the moment - just gathering information if it really does happen).
Are there any other missionary mums on this board?
I would love to hear how you implement HOD in your busy mission lives! I'm thinking of homeschooling my three in the morning and then sending them to the little mission school for the afternoon for language learning and to help in the classrooms.
Also, for those of you that have homeschooled for Yr 11 and Yr 12, how have your children gotten into college? I'm intrigued to hear how you made the giant leap into university from homeschooling. Especially if you are working cross culturally!

Thanks so much! Nicole

Hi Nicole!
I know in the US, you'd find little trouble. Most colleges are pleased to have homeschool graduates and require very little besides SAT scores and transcripts. As far as your students making the transition, I think you will find the transition on par with other students. I would say that it might take homeschool students a little longer to learn how to "read" professors or navigate the pretty much steady exposure to peers. But since HOD is actively grooming our students to be independent learners and workers, the easy transition on that front seems to balance it all out :-)

Hi Mary Both.
Thanks so much for your reply. That is very helpful! Good to know there are many more roads leading to college these days and the transition from HOD to college is easy :) Nicole

Hi Nicole! It's good to hear from you, and it sounds like you have much on the horizon! My son is now an 11th grader and has done HOD all the way through. He is well prepared even now for college academically! To prepare for the classroom setting, one easy thing to do is just have them attend adult Sunday School classes, or single/career Bible study classes at church. This usually is less intimidating rapid training for the classroom setting later. Our son will probably do College Plus and clep out of as much as he can prior to attending classes anywhere, and he may do everything online - we shall see! HOD already has course descriptions, how many credits to assign, etc. in the high school guides. I made a transcript that was inexpensive ($10, I believe) and very professional looking at www.transcriptmaker.com. It has been well accepted. We actually have a LOT of missionaries using HOD, as I've visited with many on the phone. I think they are too busy to post much on the board! HOD works well in the missionary setting too. I hope this helps, but if you have more questions, ask away!

In Christ,
Julie
