question about Singapore math workbooks (1A and 1B)

Hi! I have a 6 year old who will be doing Beyond Little Hearts this upcoming school year. My question is about the Singapore math workbooks (1A and 1B) that can be purchased for the math connection portion. What do I NEED to purchase? It looks like the workbooks are the only option to purchase through HOD, however when I have talked to others about doing the Singapore math, I was told I NEED to purchase the corresponding textbooks and home instructor manuals. So I would have to buy 6 books (2 workbooks, 2 textbooks, and 2 instructor manuals) for the 1st grade year. I would like to know if all these are NECESSARY? Can my 1st grader do the work and understand it if I only buy the workbooks? Or do I need the other books to explain concepts? I just don't want to spend the $ if its not needed. Thanks!!

In the Beyond guide, Carrie write activities to correspond to the workbook pages. These replace the textbook and home instructor guides for the average family. Starting in Preparing/Singapore 3, Carrie has you use the textbook. And in later years, she recommends the HIG.
