Fun ? Re: res to ref

Post by PoppyD » Wed Mar 02, 2016 7:44 am

Hi ladies
I have a fun question for you. We will be doing Resurrection to Reformation next year with my 6th grader. If you could pick anywhere in the world to travel that would coordinate nicely with what is being studied, where would you go and at what point of the year in the guide? We are hoping to take our first BIG trip as a family and would love for it to be educational and meaningful for the kids and preferably ft in with my oldest's studies.
Thanks
Poppy

It is funny that you should ask this question because when we were reading the Mr. Pipes book I was thinking what a neat trip that would be to take with the boys. If you could get your hands on that book now, that might give you some neat ideas. They were touring Europe and spent a night in one of the churches where Luther went, etc. It sounded like a wonderful trip.

How exciting to plan a trip!

My oldest is in Res to Ref right now and reading that same Mr. Pipes book. It would be a wonderful trip to visit the places where the Reformation was born in Germany! We are actually going to England (and France) next summer for a family trip. We chose England for family reasons (I have relatives there and we are visiting with my father), but I've noticed that it ties in with a lot of what my daughter is covering in Res to Ref right now (we are in Unit 23). We will be visiting Shakespeare's birthplace, which ties in with the Shakespeare study, and there is quite a bit in the later part of Res to Ref on English history. Also we will get to see medieval cathedrals and castles. I can't wait!

If you were going to travel any time during the first half of the guide, I think Rome would be the best place to go. There are sites of importance to early Christians (catacombs, Colosseum, etc.), and it's obviously a great place to learn about the history of the Roman Empire and the Roman Catholic Church. Also Rome was at the center of the Renaissance.

Have fun planning & happy dreaming!
