A little help with Socratic dialogue please.

My ds is going to start MTMM soon. I'm looking over the guide from when I used it with my DD. She loves writing and "words," so the dialogues weren't too hard for her. But I still felt like I wasn't doing a great job with them 
My ds has a much harder time putting his thoughts into words and sharing his thoughts and opinions... Do you have any advice for 1) how you did the Socratic dialogues in general and 2) how to encourage and help out a child who struggles in that area?
