Preparing question...looking ahead to next year

Hi, I am looking ahead to next year for my 10 year old son. He is currently in Bigger and should finish it sometime in the summer/fall. I have the Preparing guide, copyright 2008. I know there is one book that they use in it that is no longer available (I think it is used for independent history study). Are there any other differences? Would I be better off getting a new version of the guide or just skipping the book that we can no longer get (or is there a different one that takes it's place that I can just write in)? I only have the guide and not any of the other books as I got it when my girls were doing Bigger and my older one needed the dictation/math from Preparing.
Thanks!!

Which book is no longer available? I bought my Preparing guide less than 3 years ago and it is copyright 2008 so I think that is the most current version. I checked the updates on the HOD website and they don't list any books out of print or updates for previous editions of the Preparing guide (and it looks to me like you have the most current one anyway). I know if you call HOD they would advise you as well.

The one that I do not see on the list in the catalog is called "Noah's Ark, Noah's Flood" and is part of the independent History study (Unit 2-3)...It would have been in the Deluxe package area. Does your book list using this as well?

Yah...I just searched Amazon.com and found a copy of Noah's Ark, Noah's Flood for very little and ordered it. I know when I looked it up before it was very expensive or unavailable. I will have to order the rest in the fall when we are closer to being done with Bigger. We are currently on Unit 14 but plan to school though the summer so should be close to finished by fall. Already my son (just turned 10) is ready to do some things individually, but is not read for the work load in Preparing yet. Grammar, writing and reading are all hard for him (as is math, but that is separate). Poor kids just struggles with it all. The younger one (age 7 and in LHFHG) sometimes answers the older one's questions as he is listening and get them right where his brother struggles with them. <sigh>

I guess they've replaced that with "The true story of Noah's Ark" though that's a storytime book. I didn't use that book and mine doesn't seem to be missing anything, weird that mine is also copyright 2008 and doesn't include that book....

Melissa, I think they just dropped it because they were no longer able to supply it to their users. I believe that book went out of print. On a side note, I have a newer guide as well that I bought I directly from HOD. I found out from some other moms who use HOD with older kids that this even book existed. I pretty much always buy everything directly from HOD but I looked this book up on amazon. It was really cheap! With shipping, I think it cost me $6. I ended up buying it and my son read it over a few days. I believe it was scheduled in an early unit in the independent history box and was scheduled in addition to the kids drawing things or writing in cursive.
