Okay ladies here is a question I was wondering about. I have a 8 yr. and 6 yr. both with birthdays in the winter. I didn't do much formal schooling with my 6 yr. last year and did mfw with my 8 yr. Was my first year homschooling last year and I was intending on having my 6yr in K at public school. But I took her out. So anyways getting to the question. If I did Beyond with them both do you think my 6yr. would miss anything vitial with the history, science etc. I will be doing Math spereatly and the rest will all be combined. They are both at the same level with reading. My 8 yr. has a LD so is reading is about the same as my 6yr. What are your thoughts?

If your 6yo places in Beyond according to the chart, then combine away. But if she is placing in Little Hearts then I would hestitate to reccomend combining them. Did you check the chart?

I agree...you should try the chart to see where they each 'place'. I like to combine my kids, but I am also looking forward to using Little Hearts next year with my then 6-year-old and I wouldn't want to recommend you skip it. There's always time to do Beyond the next year with your 6yo. I know it can be intimidating to think of doing two programs...we'll be trying it in the fall... but the ladies here say it runs smoothly. Check the chart, then maybe we'll have some better suggestions for you. :o

Hi Daisy,

I am using Beyond for my 8 & 12 year old boys. (12 year old has Learning Difference) I worked it out that they will both be able to travel together. However, I have a 6 year old who would not get as much out of the material. I agree with the other posters to re-evaluate the placement test. I have used 2 & 3 HOD programs at the same time and it is very doable. :D I did have to tweak it for my family. We used a different math/LA that was more independent. I encourage you to pray, look at your plate (life) and see what you already have going on and then ask the Lord to place the programs before you that He has chosen. He is so faithful! He's just waiting for us to ask :D

My heart has heard you say, "Come and talk with me", my heart responds, "Lord, I am coming"! Psalm 27:8

(Mary's personal memory verse because she forgets to remember all the time!)

Okay ladies thank you very much for your thoughts and input. I am thinking about doing only one page from LHFHG with my 6yr. Learning the basic with her and then doing the same with my 8yr. The rest I will combine. What do you guys think of that? They would be doing the same science, History, art and Geography then and bible too. I do have a different Lag. arts program I will be using with both of them.

Sheila,

As long as your 6 year old listens well to 10-15 minute read-alouds with few to no pictures (that are chapter book style), you should be fine with that plan. Since your kiddos fall into the intended age-range for Beyond, I would give combining a try and see how it goes.

As far as your 8 year old, which MFW did that chid do last year? The Adventures program uses some of the same books used in "Beyond..", so I want to make sure you won't have too much overlap.

I think it sounds good to use the right side of the plans from LHFHG for your younger child (if that is where your little one places for language arts and math on the placement chart).

Blessings,
Carrie
