Finish Both Spelling Lists Before Dictation?

Am I supposed to finish BOTH spelling lists before starting dictation level 1?

Me, too, but I do know that before starting dictation they should be able to remember and write from memory a sentence of 4-6 words. The ideal is for them to be able to (after studying the passage) write it correctly (including spelling, capitals and punctuation) with each sentence being read to them only once. (You read a sentence, they repeat back, correct if necessary, they write it. Go on to next sentence. When all are done, check for errors.)
I'm curious to see what others have observed when their kids were done the spelling lists: were they ready for dictation right away?
With my oldest 3 we kind of skipped that transition as we didn't do spelling and went into dictation at around age 9/10 (pre-HOD), with only Copywork as "practice" first.

I think it depends on the age of your child. If you are referring to your 7 year old, then yes. I would finish both lists. If you are referring to the 10 year old, then no, I probably wouldn't finish both lists.
