Rod and staff question

Hi ladies
Quick question - for resurrection through reformation, I see you can use Rod and staff 4 or 5. If I go with the 5th grade book, will the lessons start at the beginning of the book? We are doing CTC this year and I had already done half of the 4th grade book, so the lessons arent matching up with the guide. It's fine because we are using a different writing this year anyway, but if we do the suggested writing next year, I would want to be at the right place with Rod and Staff. Does that make sense?
Thanks
Poppy

The options for R&S in R2R start on Unit 1, Day 2 with the following:
Help students complete one English lesson.
* Building with Diligence: Lesson 64
* Following the Plan: Lesson 59
* Your own grammar program.
Hope that helps!
Blessings,

Thanks! That helps. I'll try to get to that point in the 5th grade book by then.
I just looked forward at grammar and it looks like the world history guide only schedules grade 7 Rod and Staff. What do you do if you have already finished it?

I'll have to let someone else answer that! We have our own complications to deal with and haven't got that far yet (my oldest, in Preparing, is doing R&S 5 this year; next 2 are both in R&S 4 but very different guides! - see my signature)
Blessings,

The goal is to complete Rod and Staff 8 by the end of high school. Rod and Staff 9-10 have little grammar in them, so Carrie does not see a point in completing them with the other LA things she has in the guides. I wouldn't rush through 4 to get to the point in 5 that matches up personally. I would just do 1 lesson on the days that Rod and Staff is scheduled.

Will that not mess up the writing instruction? Or does it not matter when you hit certain topics in writing?

HOD is filled with other writing programs. So finishing 9 and 10 aren't necessary. They want you finish R&S 7 and 8 over high school because it refreshes the grammar rules as you are still working on your writing. If you really want to cover 1 grammar book per year, then I would recommend getting R&S 4 next year. Do that whole book next year since you are starting half way through the year. Then do 5 for RevtoRev. Do 6 for MTMM. And then do R&S 7-8 during the 4 years of high school (as long as your child in CTC is in 5th grade now).
R&S is somewhat of an advanced grammar program and is very challenging. So starting in 4 next year would be totally fine.

Poppy,
I am on a different schedule if R&S with my son. He will finish R&S 6 by 8th grade, which is a "goal" of HOD. I have found that we are right where God wants us to be. As we complete a R&S lesson we need that knowledge for other writing or something going on in our life. For example, the other day the lesson was about friendly letters. Well, Grandma was sick later that day so she was sent a friendly letter. Last year one of the R&S lesson was about using quotations and the Creative Writing (Rev2Rev) was about putting dialogue in the story.
I agree with the other posts, whatever level you are at just do one lesson per day don't rush to get to a certain lesson by a certain day.

Rod and Staff and the writing programs aren't intertwined in any way, other than if Rod and Staff covers it Carrie might have you skip that lesson in the writing program, so it will work fine for you to be in a different spot in Rod and Staff than what is in the book. Eventually they will still get all the material.

Thanks Lynn. That was what I was getting at. I'm not in a hurry to get them all. I just didn't know if Carrie had them coordinated with other things in the guide to where I needed to be on a particular lesson at a particular time.
Thanks
