If we want to do quizes and tests for Following The Plan, English 5, do I need to purchase those separately? I don't remember having the option to buy them from HOD. Do any of you use them?

I don't think they are necessary. In the textbook, there are reviews that you can use as "tests" if you feel the need to grade something. But, personally I don't plan on grading anything until at least 7th grade. Until then. I will just require A level work. If something isn't A level, we will go back and redo it until it is A level work.

So you just check your student's daily work to make sure he/she is getting it?

The guide suggests doing it 2/3 orally. Then I check what I assign to be written.

My son doing English 5 is in grade 8. I bought the tests and worksheets separately (starting for English 4). We don't use all the worksheets - only for things he needs review/extra work on. We do use the tests as I wish him to have some test-taking skills as well as a overall "mark" and, for myself, a general gauge of how much he is remembering/learning/improving. That said, I do recognize that they aren't recommended or sold by HOD, but this is one "tiny" way I do adapt HOD to fit our situation. (With him hating grammar, sometimes it's hard to tell if he doesn't "get" it or simply refuses to do it. A test seems to force him to show what he understands.
)
Blessings,

Thanks, Rice! Sounds like everyone works things a little differently to fit their needs.
