Will I be ready for Beyond?

Post by LeAnna » Mon Jul 28, 2008 9:10 am

As it's looking now, we will probably be done with LHFHG around March sometime. That being said, I will have a dd who turned 5 in Jan, and a dd who just turned 6 year old. They are doing great right now in LHFHG, but will they be ready at the age that they are for Beyond? I am a little concerned about the younger dd and her ability to retain info. and writing. I know Carrie said earlier that maybe I could use the A Reason For Handwriting A book, since we are doing K now. But, what about everything else?
Are there others that share this same concern or others that can tell me that it will be okay? :? What would you do?

Used HOD in the earliest years with all three of them!

The manuals are created in such a way that you are supposed to be able to move right into the next one when you complete the one you're in. However, I know there are concerns about age and maturity sometimes (myself included).

You could slow down a bit, so that you wouldn't finish LHFHG until around June. Then, take the summer off, and start Beyond in the fall of 2009. This would allow both of your dc to mature a bit and be more ready for the material in Beyond. Or, you could continue with you older dd in LHFHG, planning to move right into Beyond when you're done, but keep your younger dd moving at a slower pace, and begin Beyond with her when she's six? I know it gets complicated, but these are my suggestions for now. I only have one young one...the other two will be combined in Bigger...so I'm not sure how it would work. I know you'll get suggestions from others as well. :)

LeAnna,

I would probably just continue on and finish "Little Hearts" as you planned. Then, you would move into "Beyond...". I would do a 4 day plan once you get to Beyond, leaving your 5th day to add in extras (i.e. like art study, composer study, cooking, nature walks, etc.). Then, you would finish the last 9 weeks of "Beyond..." the following year. This would allow your 5 year old to catch up age-wise and be right on track by the time you get to "Bigger..". We did "Beyond..." on a 4-day plan, and it really worked out well! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
