Can my children choose their books for DITHOR?

Is DITHOR written with the expectation that children will use the suggested books only, or can I let them pick anything they want to read within the genre? Would that create extra work for me to adapt the materials, or are they written all generically enough to work with any book?

DITHOR is generic :D and completely adaptable. Carrie also has a book list for $5 with tons of books separated according to genre and reading level.

The suggested book list is great! We bought it when we first got DITHOR and it's what we typically use. This year we're trying an actual book pack though just for something different. :)

Great! I'm so excited!

A good book to read about using genre as a tool to get kids to read widely is The Book Whisperer. It inspired me to seek out a program like DITHOR, but didn't have enough nuts and bolts to follow as a curriculum, just the rationale. I'm really looking forward to DITHOR as a way to implement what I've been wanting to do.

Thanks!

Well, you'll love using the Sample Book Ideas list then! :D It has lots of ideas for super books to use for each level, for each genre! And of course, you can choose any other book too - just make sure you have 1-3 books for each genre at the right reading levels for your kiddos. Have fun choosing! :D
