Math Question

Right now we're doing LHFHG and we'd been using Right Start Math level A so we just continued that. It looks like we're going to be through with it in about 6 weeks if we continue at the pace we've been at (3 lessons or so per week). I've decided to switch to Singapore (although I do love RS) for a number of reasons, one being the ease of being able to just open LHFHG and go. Here's where the question come in though. Should I get the Kindergarten math and just pick up where we are in LHFHG. I'm really afraid that A TON of it will be review and math is really her strong point. She would enjoy it, I think.... but.... I don't know if I just want to review for nearly half a school year, you know? So that brings me to my other idea-should I get the next level up and get the Beyond manual (which we'll be using eventually anyway) and just start at the beginning with it? That takes away from the ease of use then. I'd be using 2 manuals and then eventually just one, but we'd be at 2 different places in it, one place for her regular lessons and then further in the book for her math. So what would you do? She's not quite 5 yet, but she's super sharp with math, so I just don't want to hold back. (We've actually been doing both RS and a lot of the lessons Carrie has written in, we're just not doing the workbook with it, obviously. She just really enjoys anything math related.) I'm perfectly fine getting the Kindergarten math books though if that's what you ladies suggest, because I know she will enjoy it either way.

Ashley,
OK...the advice I was going to give you won't exactly work for your situation... I'm switching my son from Saxon to Singapore this year and what we did was finish his book and then I printed off several placement tests and had him take one a day until I could tell which level we needed. That worked great! But, they don't have placement tests for Kindergarten on their website. The first placement tests they have are for 1A (not EB 1A), and that would tell you whether she's past level 1A, and that's not what you need to know. So...I'd say that if I were you, I'd look through the scope and sequence at the beginning of LHFHG and decide if you wanted to do those topics or if you need more.
And, honestly, I'd say that you'd be perfectly fine to do it either way. You could get the Early Bird books and jump into the lesson plans (which sounds like it would be easier for you) or you could go ahead and get Beyond and start 1A. At 5 years old, I don't think you daughter will be too bored with anything - esecially since there are fun activities. But, if she's capable, you could certainly go on.

This is what I'm doing right now with my 5.5 yos in LHFHG. We're in week 7/8 for everything but math--math we're in week 23/24. What I plan on doing is using some time and money workbooks to bridge the gap between EB 2b and Primary Math 1A which I would like to start at the beginning of Beyond as scheduled. I could even slow him down to 2-3 days of math from the later units of the guide for every regular unit of LHFHG to help stretch out those final weeks of math and do the other 2-3 days of time/money from workbooks. I may have to start that tomorrow.
