English in WG

My ds(13) will be using the World Geography guide this coming fall. He is on week 29 of MtMM, and we have loved HOD this year. I am concerned if he will be prepared for the writing/grammar in WG though. For writing in the past he has done Writing with Ease, and then we did a few years of IEW. For grammar he did Growing with Grammar for several years, and then Junior Analytical grammar. This year he is doing Apologia Jump In for writing, and we took a year off of grammar. He hates to write, and I am constantly having to ask him to add more to his narrations in MtMM, but when he does they are very good. Do you think with his background he will be ready for Essentials in Writing 10, and R&S 7? Should we do EIW 9, and something easier for grammar?

I might stick with the guide as written, taking it slow to start. We found that even though the work was more challenging than we thought he could handle, the flow of the guide and clear expectations made it much more manageable than trying to work in our own plan. My ds really felt more peace in following the guide, and the dvds make the writing process go more smoothly.

I would try the writing as written, but I would consider possibly a different level of Rod and Staff. Level 5 or 6 might be a better fit.

Hi Summer! :D We are on the road to a book fair, but Carrie and I wanted to help you out here quickly. Thank you so very much for sharing what your ds has done previously, as well as sharing he will have completed MTMM by the time he starts WG. That is so very helpful!!! It makes this easy. :) We both think he is ready for WG, as well as ready for EIW Gr. 10. For R & S English, it would be better to do R & S English 6 half-speed. You have done a good job of of preparing your ds for WG - way to go! :D :D :D We did WG last year, and I think the two of you are going to love it! :)

In Christ,
Julie
