Fine Arts question using younger guides for high school

In the Poetry box of Ctc they are assigned painting. Has anybody ever used this for partial credit in fine arts for a high schooler? Or have you added anything to it to earn part of a credit? My mom took art in high school and she was quite impressed with how deep the intructions go in Ctc for the paintings.

I was going to use it for a fine arts credit. It was suggested that I add in an additional type of art, also, such as pastels and to have my student study several artists to make it credit worthy. Depending on how quickly your child paints, you might have to add quite a bit to make it enough for a 1/2 credit or credit.

Thanks for responding! I'm not real sure how quickly he would work with paints. We have never painted before but he does tend to be slower and does work carefully and neatly. He also cannot get too bogged down with a heavy work load. so was hoping/wanting to have something without getting into a full fledged art curriculum and not really wanting art history, just the how-to's of some kind of 'doing' art. Instruction on the how's and why's of certain techniques he could handle and find interesting. He does great with a audio,visual approach. A 'little' goes a long way with him.

If you have an older child using the earlier guides for high school credit, you could consider earning credit for fine art over several years. For example, the watercolor painting within CTC combined with "Looking at Pictures" and the stories about artists within Mystery of History plus the corresponding picture study in the RTR notebook, combined with the nature journal and sketching in MTMM could earn 1/2 credit in fine arts. You would just list the credit in the year it is completed (as in when the child completes MTMM.) Another option would be to use the composer study in Rev2Rev with some additional music listening to earn 1/2 credit in music appreciation.
