For those of you who have done both RtR and CtC, did you have to spend about the same amount of time with the student? Looking at the sample week, it seems like RtR could be a little less time intensive for the parent?

I barely do anything with RtR. I just realized this week (Unit 15) that I was supposed to be doing the art/poetry stuff with her.... so she's been doing that by herself. Which means she hasn't noticed it's supposed to be teacher led either....

But I had to really help with the semi-ind boxes last year, but this year I don't have to do much. Even with grammar and math she will get out her textbook and read through the lesson before bringing it to me to go over quickly. History Project... after going through CtC she knows where everything is now.

I'd say my time with her has been cut by 30 minutes. It might have only been about 15 minutes had I noticed the art box was a T box.

That sounds marvelous. While I love working with her, my time is so spent. In a few months I will have 2 in Bigger at different places and then a couple of months after that it will be Bigger and Preparing and LHTH-and the RTR obviously. There is no way to change it either, it's definitely where everyone places. My guy in Beyond only takes 1- 1.5 hours and Bigger will take longer. There are only so many mom hours in a day.

I hear you about noticing something after a long time--it was right there but I didn't see it! (or maybe I didn't want to know that one of the boxes was supposed to be T) !!

It should be less teacher intensive especially if they are coming from CTC and do all those boxes as written. You also have the option with RTR of letting your student read the story time box instead of you reading it. That would cut out about 20-30 minutes of teacher time. It may take the same amount of time in the beginning of the guide as you take the time to explain each box and make sure they understand how to do it, but after a few weeks they should be able to do it with less time from you.

Oh I forgot about the amount of time for story time! That would be a large portion! We read storytime for everyone except LHFHG at bedtime, so I always forget about that as part of the plans

I don't read her the story time now in CTC. I forgot that it was a T because she is an excellent reader and I don't have time for it. In my ideal world, all we would do is read read read. I love reading out loud to them and they love it----if it weren't that they had to learn other skills!! rats
