Would someone be willing to share what version/translation of the Bible works best with HOD, and perhaps recommend a good Bible that will grow with my children? We've been using a kids' NIrV but the wording doesn't always match up to the activities in the guide. Thanks in advance.

Carrie states in the introduction to the guides that the questions are designed to work best for NIV (84 I am guessing) and KJV. I prefer Bibles without notes at the bottom of the pages, as those are man's words, not God's. But I like ones with an index/concordance and maps at the back.

We have multiple Bibles here. I used a KJV for Preparing because that is what the CD lines up with. I used the NIV for Bigger and Beyond. But I had my dd use her NIrV when she read Bible for CTC. I do also have my son read from his NIrV on day 5 of Bigger when we cover a Bible story - not so much word study but more event focused. I think my favorite translations for my kids is the NIrV because they can read it themselves. When they get older, they will probably get a KJV though because they have memorized a lot of verses in the KJV. I will also probably encourage them to read from and NAS or ESV as well.
I may sound crazy but I love seeing things in different versions. What I really want to get now though (for me of course) is the Message Bible with the translations NIV, NKJV, and NLT side by side comparison. It is a lot of versions but it always seems to keep things fresh. I am sorry that I am of no help. I am a Bible-a-holic. I seriously need help!

Thank you all. Your responses were helpful. I did look at the intro in Bigger, Preparing and CTC. We have NIV and KJV Bibles in the house, just not in the schoolroom. I do want the kids to be comfortable reading multiple translations so I'll just have to make room on the book shelf with all of our other school supplies;)
For those of you who responded to my thread last week on placement, I think we've decided to continue having DS 10 working out of two guides. Looking at the scope/sequence helped. I just don't want him to hate learning and I'm not sure he's quite independent enough to do CTC entirely without it consuming lots of my time and with our transition to homeschooling 2 years ago in grades 1 and 3 during the more teacher intense guides, it has been a somewhat challenging few years. My tentative plan is for him to skip MTMM (left side only) so he will be ready for WG in grade 9.
I appreciate everyone's expertise. Reading the threads yields such great info about not only the guides we are in, but also the future offerings.
