Hello! Can you give me your experience with DITHOR? My son is 8 and in Bigger right now. We plan to do Preparing in the fall. He reads if I ask him to read a book, but he rarely picks up a book at all to read by himself. Anyways, my question is, if you used DITHOR, what was your experience? If you didn't use, DITHOR, what did you use?

Is your son currently reading the ER books? If he has not read all the ER books, I would finish those first. if he is finishing the ER books and you feel he is not ready for DITHOR, you could have him read the supplemental titles or find similar level books to have him read for awhile. it sounds like he may need some more practice. You will also have to decide if he is ready for the written activities in DITHOR.

My son used DITHOR for 4 years and really enjoyed and I saw his ability to think deeply about a book grow each year. I love that it has them study biblical character traits and compare how these are shown in the bible with how the characters in the book might show or not show these same traits. It works on vocabulary within the context of the book which has been shown a great way to increase understanding of vocabulary. It also introduces things like theme and conflict and other literary terms in ways they can understand. My ds used books from the book packs and he liked every one of them that we used and he is not a kid that will read in his free time. In the early levels there isn't as much writing so that also gradually increases to build the skill of answering questions in writing.
