I will be a newbie home school mom in the fall and I am leaning towards Heart of Dakota and browsing the forums BUT...
I have no idea what many things are because I don't know the acronyms :D One day, I'll be an old hat at it but right now I am clueless. Is there a list of frequently used acronyms so I can decipher as to what others are referring? Thanks!

I understand. We have all been in your shoes :-) Here are the ones I can thing of that you may see in the threads:

HOD - Heart of Dakota
LHTH - Little Hands to Heaven (3-5 year old program)
LHFHG - Little Hearts for His Glory (5-7 year old program)
BLHFHG - Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory (6-8 year old program)
BHFHG - Bigger Hearts for His Glory (7-9 year old program + extensions available)
PHFHG - Preparing Hearts for His Glory (8-10 year old program + extensions available)
CTC - Creation to Christ (9-11 year old program + extensions available)
R2R - Resurrection to Reformation (10-12 year old program + extensions available)
RevtoRev - Revival to Revolution (11-13 year old program + extensions available)
MTMM - Mission to Modern Marvels (12-14 year old program + extensions available)
WG - World Geography Guide (13-15 year old program- 1st high school guide)
WH - World History Guide (14-16 year old program - 2nd high school guide)
DITHOR - Drawn into the Heart of Reading - used in conjunction with BHFHG through MTMM
R&S - Rod and Staff is the grammar program that HOD sells.
SM - Singapore Math - this is the elementary math series that HOD sells for math
OSS - One Small Square - these are science books sold in some of the younger HOD guides, 3 sold as part of BHFHG, 2 in PHFHG, and a couple in the lower level book packs.

Other things you may read that HOD doesn't sell:
MFW - My Father's World - this is another curriculum company. Many people here have used both HOD and MFW and sometimes people will talk about a comparison between the two.
AAS or AAR - this is all about spelling or all about reading. This is not sold by HOD but some people will talk about because they have used it
CLE - Christian Light Education - again this is not a product sold by HOD but some people use it and list it in their signature
IYW - Igniting your Writing - this used to be sold by HOD but I don't think it is anymore

I think we were typing at the same time (even though the time stamp shows different). Right when I hit save, yours popped up at the same time :-)

Welcome to the board, CFoscato! :D I know it can seem like people are talking a foreign language! The ladies shared the main acronyms, but if you ever wonder, be sure to just ask! We have all been there, and we would look forward to helping demystify the acronyms any time! :D :D :D

In Christ,
Julie
