Why only half of the genres in one year with DITHOR?

I'm selecting books for my daughter to use with DITHOR with CTC. She is an avid reader and it can be a challenge to keep up with finding grade level and content appropriate books for her to read. I love HOD's book packs and am purchasing the girl, 5/6 book set.

Do all of the guides use DITHOR covering half of the genres each year or does it pick up in one of the later guides? I don't have access to a library and am trying to figure out a good pace for DITHOR for my daughter. I'm trying to figure out what to shelf to use with DITHOR later. If we cover half the genres maybe she could read the others in the set as free reading or is it better to save them for use with DITHOR?

Thanks for putting up with all my newbie questions! :-)

Blessings,
Julie

If you follow the schedule in the guide, it takes a full school year to cover half the genres in the older guides. The reading/writing is spread out throughout the week across the guide, so DITHOR is not every day.

DITHOR is only schedule to cover half the genres each year in each guide. It is because if you started it when kids were younger, you would end up going through it 3 full times. And that is enough to go through it before high school. For us, we buy one DITHOR book pack each year. I let my oldest pick which ones she wants to use for lit study and she reads the other books in free reading. With my younger two kids this year, they are starting DITHOR in a few months. I set out the level 2 books and the level 3 books from each book pack. I let them each pick which books they wanted for DITHOR. They can then read the other books in their free time if they want too. For us, I really love all the book selections. But the book packs were definitely designed in a way that you could set aside half the books for the following year.
