Science in RevToRev and WG

What is the difference between the physical science in RevToRev and the Physics portion of the WG program? Next year, I will have a 9th grader in RevToRev. I am trying to decide whether to use the RevToRev science using the advanced kit instead of the basic, or whether to use the science from WG. Will the advanced version of RevToRev be worthy of a credit for Physical Science?

I read through this post. So what would you do if the child has not used HOD. He will need physical science for his 2nd year of high school. He is using TT Algebra 1 & it is not coming easy for him. He has had to redo numerous lessons when his grade is in the 60's. Redoing the lessson the next day usually gives him a grade in 80's or higher. Based on this, what science would you recommend: Rev-Rev OR Integrated physics & Chemistry as scheduled in WG?

If he is doing the Rev2Rev guide, then I would do the science in there. That is because it is all planned out. If you did the WG's IPC science, you would need the WG guide to match the labs with the IPC course.

The Rev to Rev science is very hands on, with not as much reading or as many calculations as the WG physical science. If your ds is a hands on type of learner then I would definitely recommend the Rev to Rev science using the Advanced level for high school credit.

I can't really say that he is a hands on learner... he never has done much with kinex, legos or that type of thing. He has put together a few small lego kits, maybe does better with instruction type rather than build yourself. I'm not sure how he would do with the calculations though if he did the WG science.

I have a 2nd DS who will be in 9th. I've been thinking of possibly putting them together in a Physical Science.( partly to save money, partly they both need a physical science credit and don't want to put upcoming 9th grader in biology yet as he is doing a biology this year and he would like a break) This second DS has a better understanding in math, currently using TT pre-algebra. He will be using TT Algebra in 9th. I'm not sure if science in Rev to Rev. would be challenging enough for him. ??? This DS IS hands on. He loves to make huge projects from Kinex- he made a man once, as tall as himself with working joints as close to human as he could do.! He hasn't shown much interest in the Rev to Rev science though when I've talked to him about it :o It kind of surprised me because he had wanted to learn more about inventors and such. His understanding of computers & such is astounding and will often get books out of the adult section on computers. He is interested in circuit kits like Arduino. We got him a snap circuit kit for Christmas and I declare he sat on that floor all day working with it! And now he's talking of needing the extension kit! I don't want to under challenge him but neither do I want to load down my upcoming 10th grade DS.
I would appreciate any thoughts you have about this,

Becky

Your son sounds a lot like my 16 year old. :) He's a reader, not a math kid, and also not so much for hands-on things. :D He was having a lot of trouble with the chemistry (ACE) that he was doing because of all the math. After discussing on here, with Carrie, she suggested going with the IPC course in the WG guide for him and doing the physics part this year, then the Chemistry that comes out in the new guide next Fall. My son has already had Physical Science though, so I'm making this more geared to only Chemistry and he'll also be watching the Chemistry 101 DVD.

Since your son hasn't had Physical Science yet, if he is a "reader," I would suggest going with the IPC, even though you'll have to get the WG guide. I haven't seen the RevtoRev science yet, we'll order it next year for my youngest, but he's very hands-on and not much of a reader. The Pacs are all reading, then a workbook with the questions to answer and you add a lab throughout the lessons. I don't remember how many labs or how often they come up to do, but they're not at any specific time. They're just scheduled in as the lesson comes up. I didn't buy the guide at first because I was also having the buy the WH guide. However, if you want to do the labs along with the IPC pacs, then you'll need the WG guide too. It's impossible (at least for me!) to figure out what labs go with which lesson in the pacs. I ended up ordering the WG guide too. I'll eventually use it with my last son or it can always be resold. Either way, it's worth it to have it. :)

He will need the labs - so, do the labs have math calculations? I'm a little concerned that my oldest will have have trouble with it. He is having some trouble in his algebra this year. Will that make it a problem for him if there ARE calculations in the labs?
What about quizes and tests in the Integrated Physics & Chemistry, are these scheduled in the guide?
Sorry for all the questions! I'm trying to get this figured out. :?
Rev to Rev appeals to me too, just not sure which way to go :)

Ok, I found a thread that said quizzes and tests were not scheduled. I got one of my questions answered! :D
