Can anyone tell me about the science in this package? My daughter loves science and is pretty serious about wanting to be strong in it academically. Thoughts?

We love it. My daughter is now on the Birds of the Air and she says that she loves it. I like how they approach it, I think that they retain things better the way Carrie does it.

What age is your daughter? I think that can make a difference on your thoughts for science.

I will say, with HOD, I have found that it isn't necessarily the resources that are picked out but how they are used that make them so good. I am absolutely loving this year's science. We start the Bird book next week (so glad to hear your dd is loving it Gwenny) and my dd has absolutely loved the Animals book. It is fascinating. I love that Carrie sometimes uses the experiments in the book but that she also schedules some of her own. Each week the kids will do a lab write-up. Each week the kids will answer 5 questions related to what they read. And each week the kids make a notebooking / copywork entry. I have found that my kids also retain things so much longer because they are following the teaching methods that Carrie employs throughout her guides. For us, I actually switched over to HOD because of their science through out each level. It is very interesting. And the experiments are great. They are fun, educational and my kids can do them alone or with minimal help.

She said that she likes it better than Land Animals. She said she liked Land Animals, but once she started Birds she realized that she likes it better. I think that it came at a great time though. We went camping for Thanksgiving week and the campground has several bird blinds with guides in them. She and her friend spent a lot of time there, so this is a great follow-up.

My daughter will be 11 and in 5th grade when we do CTC.

If she hasn't done Charlotte Mason style science it will seem different, because the emphasis isn't on read, memorize, regurgitate back. The emphasis is on truly understanding and diving into what they are reading. As others have mentioned the assignments that go along with the books make it where the dc truly remember what they have read. My ds loved the science in CTC. He also really enjoyed the bird book. The human anatomy part of the science is very good also. The Tiner book is absolutely fascinating. I learned many new thing and I have my degree in Physical Therapy. The science in CTC through MTMM is designed to build building blocks for the high school years science, yet it still is fun and enjoyable. My ds learned to love science because of the way HOD presents them. The challenge is just right for the age it is written for.

Perfect! Sounds like this is all we will need.
Question though - I am planning to start Answers in Genesis human body next semester. (We aren't using HOD yet - starting in April or May). How much of human anatomy is covered in CTC? If it's a lot, I may do something else for science next semester so she won't be frustrated that she just did it.

It is actually quite a bit for human anatomy. She will read about Galen and the history of medicine. Then she will read that "History of Medicine" book by Tiner. Both books are amazing! I read both books the week my books got delivered from HOD. To finish it up, Carrie scheduled the Illustrated Adventures in Human Anatomy. This book tells about the structure and different systems of the body.
