Hi all,
We are moving along through Bigger with my oldest.....going pretty good with our new schedule and trying to promote better habits.....
Just started Farmer Boy....to finish in 20 days requires reading 18-19. Pages daily....is that correct? Just quite a jump from the amount we have done previously ....
My ds loved it and actually wanted me to read more, it's just a time concern for me really....may have to move story time til later in day or something.....

Also, I have started little miss in LHTH so allowing time for that in our day as well.....she loves it so much I have to do "her school" first!.....
In our morning prayer request time, she thanked Jesus for me doing her own school with her! ...bless her little soul !!

Yes, that one was considerably longer, but since it is pretty easy reading it's not too much. We were a little surprised by it too but it went well when I read that to my oldest in Bigger. Part of the intention is to build up their ability to listen to longer and longer readings and still retain and understand it all. Farmer Boy is a great book for developing this. I did one called A Little Princess with my 2nd born and that one was long too. Storytime was taking 30-40 minutes or something each day. I just had to work it in. Often it was during little brother's naptime when it became long, that gave us something to look forward to.

Last year in Beyond we had a couple of long ones :-) But my kids loved them! For me this year, I specifically picked books that weren't long for the story time box because it is my first year running 3 levels. However, because we enjoyed the books being longer last year, my kids and I both miss longer stories for the story time box LOL. And a few of the books I picked to read are so short that I am reading 2 books at the request of my son. It is hard sometimes to fit in the longer books but that book in particular was on of my kids favorites. We have read it more than once and I will check it out from the library on CD so the kids can listen to it again.

We do storytime at night just for the length reason. Well, that and because my kids hate being read to  They really hate reading of any kind, but much prefer it when they can read it themselves.

We are only in Beyond, but Ginger Pye is longer chapters than the others. Luckily, I was able to get the audio for it (our library has both e audio and cds for Ginger Pye). So, my daughter follows along in the book while we listen to it. I can often fold clothes or snuggle with the other kids if necessary while listening to 20 minutes of reading.

Thanks ladies!
Just wanted to make sure we were doing things correctly...we saved story time till afternoon yesterday, while 3 yo napped and I nursed the baby....so had more time that way and worked pretty well....
Thanks for the suggestions ! :D
Have a blessed day!

Another option might be to split the readings, doing half during the day and the other half at bedtime. :D My hubby and I used to tag team with some of the longer books if I couldn't get the pages read in one sitting.

Blessings,
Carrie
