Considering Heart of Dakota

Hi everyone!
I'm considering HOD for next year. . .it was recommended by several people on another forum. I have a very precocious upcoming 1rst grader and a rather reluctant upcoming pre-ker. They place into LHTH andLHFHG. I was wondering if I can meet in the middle and do BLHTH? Has anyone done this? They are less than two years apart and I was hoping to combine them, but they don't seem to fit in the same category. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi Bryan's Brynn,
I will be using Little Hearts For His Glory this year with my first grader and pre-k'er as well! I wonder if you were thinking of Beyond Little hearts because there is no program between LHTH and LHFHG? Beyond comes after LHFHG so would not be appropriate for your situation.
You could either use both programs, or you could use Little Hearts and let your pre-k'er join in on the activities. I chose to do this as I would like to keep my boys together this year and I think my little one will enjoy alot of the activities. I also got him some of the Rod and Staff workbooks scheduled into the manual and a numbers workbook for his own.
Hope that Helps!

Thanks for the input. . .this is encouraging. . .
I'm realizing I miswrote where they placed:
MY 1 rst grader ds places into Beyond Little hearts for his glory (independent reader etc. . .)
My free-spirited pre-k dd places in Little Hands to heaven
hoping to meet in the middle with Little hearts for his glory. . .
Is the independent reader schedule in the appendix of this as well?

No, the emerging reader system is not scheduled in LHFHG. You would need to purchase the Beyond manual to have the schedule. If you are planning to move on to Beyond the following year, then you wouldn't be out the money for the manual, you'd just be buying it early.
After you finish the emerging reader schedule, you move on into Drawn into the Heart of Reading.
How old is your 1st grader?

I would think you could combine them pretty easily into Little Hearts.
I have three september boys, btw-so I completely understand those late birthdays!

The question is this:
Would your now pre'Ker be ready for beyond in a year? If you think so, then no problem, combine them.
Or take a year to do little hearts or Beyond with the older one if you want and add LHTH for the younger one, LHTH only takes 30 minutes.
We just finished a year of Beyond and a different K program and are now moving into a year of Bigger and Little Hearts.

No advice since I'm a newbie myself, but I wanted to welcome you to the boards. These ladies are great and I'm sure you will get some great advice!

HMMMMMM - well, I'm picturing your dc with a big smile on my face, because you gave such a good description of them!

I am thinking it may make you want to pull your hair out to do the 2 of them together in the same program... precocious meets reluctant...

but, I could be totally off-base here. I think if your oldest places pretty strongly in Beyond..., then start there. LHTH would probably be perfect for your little one. I think you'd enjoy the year more this way, rather than trying to have your little one do too much. That does not mean you're saying "no" to combining them forever though. With the extensions in HOD's programs, you could combine them later if it looks like the timing would be better.
In Christ,
Julie

You sound like my husband. . .Don't hold Micah back. . .and don't push Katya. . .when all she wants to do is sing and dance. (and she does have a lovely voice. . .what a blessing to get to raise and enjoy such totally different children.)
So my current thoughts are to go with Beyond for ds. . .but to wait a couple of months (he hasn't turned 6 yet) and to do LHTH with dd whenever she's ready! I'm just so excited.

I'm betting that she will enjoy LHTH. There is singing and wiggling and very little seat work. My kids loved it, it's perfect for wiggly kids. You could try it for a week and see if she's ready and if not, put it away for a while.

Just wanted to say welcome. That sounds like a great plan to me. I think you will be so much happier this way. I'm excited for you too.

BTW- I love your children's names!

I'm so excited for you to begin! You'll enjoy Beyond..., and LHTH is going to be a blessing for your precious little wiggler.

It certainly was for my little wiggler - whom still has a hard time "sitting" on the couch in any other position than that of a rocket ready to be launched (on his haunches)!

Be sure to share your box day with us.
In Christ,
Julie

Brian's Brynn,
It sounds like you have a great plan! The moms are wonderful about talking through options to help you discover what's best, aren't they!
Blessings,
Carrie
