Question about EIW and grammar...

Hi,

I was looking on the Essentials in Writing website and I noticed that the author states that his program requires no additional grammar. I'm wondering why Carrie chooses to continue with Rod & Staff English while also using EIW in the two upper guides? I definitely want to make sure my dc have enough grammar before and during high school, but I also don't want to overdo it.

Thanks!

Sara

We are only in the 3rd week of the World Geography guide so we have done 5 lessons of EIW, but so far the grammar included in it is nowhere near the same rigor or as comprehensive as what is in Rod and Staff. I really like EIW for a writing program, but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it without additional grammar.

I agree with Lynn. And, EIW grammar is only the first half of the book. I have been debating about EIW as well, but in a different way. My 6th grader is using it and I wonder what I will do for grammar when he finishes the grammar portion of EIW. My 9th grader who is in the WG Guide uses Analytical Grammar besides the EIW. I'm a bit burned out on R&S, that's the only reason why we chose AG instead. But, I might have to go back to R&S for my 6th grader. Sigh.
