BLHFHG Spelling question

I'm curious about the use of spelling lists. I thought Charlotte Mason didn't do that but rather copywork and dictation were how spelling was learned. I've never done spelling lists and it just doesn't feel very CM to me.
Don't mean to sound critical. Just wondering how this fits with CM approach.

The spelling lists teach the child how to do studied dictation. However instead of sentences and paragraphs, it's single words, which is more along the lines of what that age can do easily.

Ok, that makes sense, thank you for explaining it that way!

The spelling lists are not strictly CM, they made decisions to change certain things (like grammar study beginning in Bigger) they felt were important to add in. It is so quick and simple and my kids have done well with it so I've definitely seen the value in it.
