Substitute Read Alouds

My son who's going to use Preparing coming year, has only recently read both Door in the Wall and Twenty and Ten. When I mentioned that these books are scheduled in the guide he didn't sound to enthusiastic about reading them again. He actually read Door in the Wall 3x (1 time I read it out loud, and then he read it himself 2 times), so I feel I might have to get him some other books. Any suggestions?

Personally, I would suggest subbing in some of the Extension Readers (that's what we did for fun during Preparing the first time). The Shakespeare Stealer was a huge hit (I did read it aloud) and it is long enough to sub for both books. Unless he's older (middle school age), I probably would stay clear from The Bronze Bow. It was one of my favorite children's books but dd, at 9 years old, didn't enjoy it much. It really ought to be read around 6th grade (which is why it's an extension book). There is a sweet (and pure) love-interest in the book that kids prior to middle school age just don't *understand*.
