Choosing Readers for Preparing

I'm considering using Preparing for my 9 year old ds. I see it has Readers for the Newly Independent Reader. I'm confused as to whether these are just supplements for the history of if they are the actual student readers. If I get them will I still need the DITHOR books too?

I am fairly certain those books are used for the independent history box scheduled in the guide. You can view the first week of the guide and see how each set of items is used:
