Is he ever mentioned or read about in any of the guides? Not finding history curriculum that DO & it's disappointing.

I don't know if he is included or not, but there is a way to easily add his story to HOD without adding to HOD. In Beyond and Bigger as well as in DITHOR, 9 genres of literature are covered. One is biography. There are many Johnny Appleseed/John Chapman biographies out there at a variety of reading/comprehension levels. You could easily use one of these for the storytime in Beyond or Bigger or for DITHOR (where students read the books).

There's also a Jim Weiss CD with his story on it (and Paul Bunyan, and two others).

We've really enjoyed Johnny Appleseed The Story of a Legend by Will Moses. It was just a fun title I picked up to share with the kids.

Whether it's covered in a curriculum or not, if something's special to you, include it! I really like Stephanie's idea of including it as a DITHOR biography book, or Julie's recommendation on an audio book! (We have that one, too. Its a good one!) Great ideas!
