CTC Extensions

Can someone who has used the extensions with CTC (my DS will be using them for Grade 7) give me an overview of what this has looked like for you, how long they tend to take to complete the work each day (though I know that is totally dependent upon the child, but generally), how you keep track of them, since they're not on the main page of the guide, etc. (basically anything else you think I might want to know about how to implement them)? Not only have I not used the extensions before, but this is my first year with HOD, so it's all new to me!
Thanks for any insights!
Blessings,

Hi Rice! This thread should help...

As far as keeping track of the extensions, you can just put a sticky tab in the Appendix. The start of the CTC Extensions Schedule nicely explains the follow-ups to rotate through, and the reading schedule is written to match the Unit and Day of the daily plans. HTH!

Julie

Thanks, Julie, that helps with the timing (it said 20-30 min for extensions).
I just want to start it now, but have to finish exams this week, then wait all summer to start HOD!

One tip I have for ease of use with the extensions. I would copy out a page of the extension schedule, fold it, and it becomes the bookmark for the book they are on. Saves on flipping there everyday.

Oh, good idea! We'll have 3 using the guide, so that will really help.

I actually wrote in pencil at the top corner of the page what the extension reading was for the day. I just wrote them all in at the beginning of the year. My DD needed this as she'll tend to skip it if it isn't right in front of her. I thought of copying it, but I didn't want her to lose the paper. This worked for my daughter, but may not be necessary for some.

LOL, I may need to do both: have the photocopy for him to take to his room to follow the instructions and have a box to check off on the appropriate page of the guide as well.
