Good luck!!! I think that sounds like a great plan! While I haven't quite done what you are doing at your level, my youngest did beyond this year and she is going to do little hearts next year. This was a tough decision for me because I know she could move to bigger maturity wise - she is actually gifted. But she wouldn't be ready for all of the writing. So, we are backing up a level. Since your son has done most of CTC, I think he would be totally fine only completing half of preparing. This will buy him some time and make his year very interesting. And then you can go at his speed with CTC when he ready to finish :-)

Decisions, decisions ;-)

Good luck to you as well! I think we will be fine since we aren't being redundant in history by repeating the creation units. I dont mind getting a little funky with the order of history but we dont like repeating things over and over.

We will keep the 3R's the same. The notebook pages will also be helpful.

What swayed you to use LHFHG instead of Bigger at half speed?

My middle child is completely ready for Bigger full speed. He can write everyday now and NEVER complains. And he is fast at it. So I didn't want to slow him down. And my middle child is 20 months ahead in age of his sister. And I could keep them in the same guide together and let her mature a little and he would still be in age range. But, with my family, I find that everyone just does better when everyone has their own thing to be proud of. My youngest actually will answer my middle child's math problems half the time and she spells better and can read harder words. So I know it sounds weird that I would send her backwards. I think realistically since my son is so unique and has more special needs - I really need him alone. Plus by having him alone, it will give him the freedom to be a normal little boy LOL. Because he had a speech and language delay, he can struggle with understanding verbal and sometimes written directions. My youngest can be a little bit too helpful and he can't get a word in. But, the neat thing is that since my youngest is gifted, she will read all of the story time books out loud to me. She will start DITHOR at the same time as her brother - both reading different books but at the same level. And they are both doing the same cursive.

I should say - my youngest is actually a work horse but only on the things she wants to do. So I am filling next year with things she will love. I got her a few of the Draw Write Now books that she can work on in her own time - she loves drawing and copying. I also plan to have her do a nature study. I am planning to let her use the book Primary Language Lessons for any writing activities she wants to do (basically - I own it and she has already started working through it on her own). The library is going to be my best friend and she can set her volume for the day as she pleases. I honestly only care if we complete what is in the manual. The rest is Josie led LOL. And again, even though I have all this "stuff" for her do if she chooses, some days her priorities are to play, play and play some more. I am totally cool with that for her and that is why she is moving to Little Hearts :-).

That sounds like a fantastic year of exploration! Thanks for sharing! :-D

I'd love to hear how it's going after you get into your groove with dc. My dd6 sounds a lot like your kiddo, as well as my ds10 :) .
