Lit time in World Geography guide-Julie or others

I now have the books and the World Geography guide in hand and I have a question about the Literature box time. I saw on another post where Julie said 40-45 minutes for this box. Just wondering if that is even on the days they do written narrations for the novels? Looking at the amount of reading each day for some of the books (25-30+ pages) I am just trying to figure out if my ds will be able to do this. I think reading that many pages could easily take him 45 minutes or more and then to add a written narration to it we could be looking at around 1 hr 15 minutes to 1 hr 30 minutes for that box on those days. He is just such a slow reader and then it takes him awhile to process that much information into a written narration due to his processing issues. I am just trying to get a feel for how long the dc who are doing this guide now take and see how he lines up with that so I know if I need to tweak things some. I already had plans to leave out 1 book, but trying to figure out if I need to tweak it some more. I can always have him read in the summer whatever we skip. I want to challenge him but I don't want to push him to the point of frustration and being overwhelmed.

Does the box say that they are reading on that day as well? Are you talking about the Living Library or the Literature study?

It is the literature study box and yes they read the pages assigned in the novel and then do the written narration.

I hesitate to answer this because we are using the WG lit with the MTMM guide. Anyway, this is our experience: on assignments from the Fundamentals of Lit. he usually finishes the reading quickly - maybe 30-40 minutes. That includes the time it takes him to answer the questions. On days he reads a novel, he finishes in 30-50 minutes, depending on if he has a written narration. Writing is like torture to him, no matter what he has to write about; so, it typically takes him much longer than other kids. So, basically, literature rarely takes him more than 50 minutes.
I am not sure anything here is helpful, but it is our experience.

Shelly that is helpful. Its encouraging to hear he is getting it done in the expected time and yet struggles with writing. I just am worried because his reading and written narrations with history can take 45 minutes and those are short readings. I guess I can try it as written and see how he does.

Hi, Lynn,
My dd is finishing up the WG guide now. The Lit is a longer portion of the day many days, but she is a fast reader and writer, so I hesitate to do any comparison with how long it will take your son. I do think you'll need to do some tweaking for him. You are so good in making things work for him and I know you'll figure out how to get the most out of the Lit study in a way that will work well with his issues. I'm a little concerned about my upcoming son doing it next year as he is a much slower reader and writer than my dd. Maybe we can compare notes as we go along.
I have already started my son reading the Living Library books for the WG and will continue to have him read them over the summer so he has a jump start on those books. I know they are optional, but they are so good. We will cut out a few of them, but most of them I hope to cover if we get this early start and it's nice to have a summer reading program already planned out for me!

Thanks Tiffini that is also helpful. The more I look at it the more I think I will cut it down from 7 books which is what is scheduled for the boy package to just 4 books for him. I am going to make a tentative reading schedule for that and see what it looks like. I just need to be realistic with what he can really handle and comprehend. I am going to read the living library books out loud to him still. He enjoys that time and said he still wants to do that. Those books are crucial for him in understanding the history.
