CtC and English 4

Post by Gwenny » Tue Apr 29, 2014 8:50 pm

I was thinking that my daughter is behind in grammar. She will be moving into CtC and will be starting English 4 at the same time. I thought we needed to fast track it to get her up to speed. But, I see that Carrie schedules it in there only using half of the book this year. She also does that with English 5. So, just do 1/2 of the book for this guide then? Just some people are in 5 for this guide, but 4 is okay?

The goal is to get through R&S 6 by the end of 8th grade. Then, you do R&S 7 and 8 in high school. So, I think your speed depends on the grade level you are working at. Of course, you as the parent have some discretion too as to how much grammar is appropriate for your child. But half speed in CtC gives a good balance to the education I think, which is why Carrie did it that way (so you aren't spedning too much time on LA each day).

Following bc my dc is in 6th grade and in ctc and R&S 4. Grammar has always been challenging and the 1/2 speed grammar us working well. I dont want to push since it is his most challenging subject. I am interested to see what others say.

This will likely look different for everyone based on what level your student is at, and what grade they're in. ;)

My dd will be heading into 5th grade this year doing CTC as well. She will be doing all of R&S English 4. The year following, she will do all of level 5 with RTR, and then we'll break up level 6 over her 7th and 8th grade years (REV and MTMM). R&S is easy to schedule, so even if it's not scheduled exactly this way in our guide, it'll still work out fine. I would much rather do level 4 in a year now ( and level 5 the same way next year), and then be able to break up the upper levels later when all their work is more involved.
