Can someone tell me more details on how this works and what and how they're drawing? Is it weekly?

It is twice a week and they read the drawing lesson and then draw various things and sometimes also journal thoughts or reflections. It teaches various drawing techniques that include things like using diagonal lines, drawing with pen shading and how to achieve specific colors and perspective. They draw things like flowers, birds, feathers, trees, sunsets, leaves, different farm animals, grass, clouds, and landscapes to name a few. Sometimes they go outside to draw and other times they are instructed to draw from a picture in the book or one they find on the internet. My ds has not mastered some of the techniques because of his challenges with drawing, but he loves this box and does it second right after bible every day it is scheduled. It takes him maybe 20 minutes, a little longer if he needs to write something also. It truly is an art class as well as nature study.

Thanks, Lynn. Are the directions driven by the book or by HOD plans?

They are driven by both. Sometimes the book will say to do 10 sketches and Carrie has instructions to do 3. Carrie also divides the lessons up and has them do what paragraph 1 and 2 says one day and then paragraph 3 the next time.
