Where should I place my 8th grader?

Post by janeen721 » Tue Mar 18, 2014 10:34 am

My oldest son will be starting 8th grade this fall. My plan is to put him in the World Geography guide for 9th grade so I am not sure which guide to use for 8th grade. We are currently using CTC because I wanted to finish out our year covering ancient history and then I had planned on going through the rest of the guides, in order, but if I do that he won't be able to complete the high school guides that are currently in the works. So my question is: should I put him in Mission to Marvels for 8th grade? Any suggestions on this?

Thanks,
Janeen

Good question! I would check the placement chart and place him where he fits best. There are many possible high school paths with HOD, so you don't have to feel like you must bump him up to WG for 9th grade unless he will flourish there. Here is a past post Carrie had written in regard to this type of decision...

Choosing RevtoRev or MTMM for high school or bumping up to World Geography guide for high school:

Has CTC been a good fit, or has it been quite easy for ds? That would make a difference in placement. We found RevtoRev to be an increase in skills, and then WG to be quite an increase in skills. So, that may make a difference in your decision. Here is a link to the placement charts...

If you get the chance to share your findings after checking out the placement chart, especially in regard to the first page of it, then we will all chime in with better fine-tuned advice! FWIW, we have done all the HOD guides, and are about to finish the WG guide. They are all incredible! You really can't go wrong with any of them, so choosing based on placement will still give you a great guide no matter what! HTH, and looking forward to hearing more about your ds! :D
