I am not a fan of cursive writing, but my fifth and third grade boys are wanting to learn. I know the pros and cons to cursive and I am not looking for a debate. I just want to know your ideas for teaching them, without making them feel like they are in kindergarten. So, my question is where do I begin? Thank you!

HOD has it scheduled in Bigger, which is 2nd-4th grade with extensions for 10-11 yo, so those resources shouldn't be too young, especially for the 3rd grader.

Both boys are in Preparing and will begin CTC in the summer.

My 8 year old son is doing it right now from Bigger. In the Bigger program is the Cheerful Cursive book HOD sells. He really enjoys it and I have found it to be an excellent way to teach cursive. It isn't young at all. It teaches a letter, than connecting letters they have learned so far for single words to practice. Then it increases another letter and gives more single words. It works well. It also has them read scripture or a saying about Jesus that is written in cursive. Lastly, they read single words written in cursive and then print them.

I guess my point is that Carrie chose two options that are meant for about the 3rd grade level, so they aren't too baby-ish. They can definitely be used outside of Bigger. The other option in Italic D, and it might be a better option for older boys.
