Ready this year only Preparing but I think you could use that especially if they are coming from ps. Carrie would know better. I am just thinking form when I pulled mine out of ps and the fact that I will be using it with a twelve year old. I took some of Carries recommendations for beefing it up. THis might help. http://www.heartofdakota.com/board/view ... =8023#8023
You are going to need to get the $5 book list for book. It is so worth it!
But let me just say that I am so happy that you have decided to homeschool your 12 year old. That is so wonderful! I know you will never be sorry you have decided that!

Jesse (my 12 yr old) is using Bigger with the extension pack. He's not a super strong reader, though. If you are after a full curriculum, I think Preparing would be good for your 12 yr old.
I've used Drawn Into the Heart of Reading for the whole time we've homeschooled and we love it. It's very easy to adapt to an older or a more voracious reader just by the literature you chose. The work pages will go with any book. It's just reading, though-so it's not a full curriculum.
And yeah-the book list is incredibly helpful.
As for the grades, that's another reason I love HOD-it's based more on age and ability. That's also how I can convince my 12 yr old he's NOT doing "little kid work" buy doing the same curriculum as his 9 yr old brother!

I agree that you could use Preparing... for your daughter's curriculum this year along with the extension pack. You'd also want to add Drawn into the Heart.... for literature study and Rod and Staff English Level 4 or 5 or 6, depending on how rigorous your 12 year old's grammar instruction has been.
I'd give her the Singapore placement test to determine correct math placement. Here's that link:

Since your 12 year old is just coming out of public school, I wouldn't add anything additional to Preparing... beyond what I listed above. This will be a settling in year to see where your child is at overall.
Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks all
Im still working my head round what we need.Sadly Carrie I have no idea what her grammer instruction has been like.If it is anything like mine-it could be pretty dismal. Its one subject I would be learning alongside. It was pretty unfashoinable to teach Grammer in the UK in the 70/80's.It really got confusing when we started learning french-I had no idea what nouns and verbs were!.She reads everything she can get her hands on.Everything from travel guides to novels.Fortunately she visits the library regularly.Im not sure how much she get to analyse what she has read though.I think she would love DITHOR
