skip spelling list 2 and move on to dictation?

Post by creekmama » Tue Feb 25, 2014 9:15 am

Hello, ladies. My 7yo daughter is doing Beyond, and for the most part it is a perfect fit for her. My only question is about spelling. Spelling list 1 was too easy for her, so I moved her up to list 2. She's having no problem with that either and complains about doing it because it's boring. Think I should try dictations with her instead? I guess if it doesn't work, we could always go back to the spelling list. :)

You could definitely try dictation. Remember that it will be a new skill for her so until she figures that part out it will be a little bit challenging. I moved my son to dictation after doing about half of the level 2 spelling lists. There is some overlap, so he's doing well with it.

I "second the motion" to have her try dictation out. It never hurts, and it may end up being the best fit.
Like you said, you can always go back if it doesn't work.

Both of my two younger kids are now doing dictation as well. They are doing wonderfully well with this too. I was glad I bumped them.
