Using HOD for History

I am looking at us using HOD for History, Bible and Storytime. If that is the case, can I combine my two children in Beyond, when one places in LHFHG and the other in Bigger? Or are skill levels still an issue? Hope I am being clear in my questions. Thanks for the help.

For the year that you do Beyond, no it won't make a difference. However, if you continue HOD; then, yes, it will make a difference. There is a lot of cross-curricular skills in HOD through the history. I would think you would start to hit road bumps in Preparing or CTC with the younger student. You may not though. It is more of a question of how ready they would be for the independent parts of HOD in the future guides.

I think there is still a skill gap between LHFHG and Beyond with the History read-alouds. Your child will get much mroe out of the readings if they are on his level. Beyond requires a longer attention span that at best could not sink in with a student who wasn't ready, and at worst leave them frustrated, discouraged, and distracting for the others. I had a child in Beyond for a couple of months that fit the last category...LHFHG was a super good move for him at that time!

Also, as Tidbits pointed out, there is even greater skill building in the later guides, and the narration, etc. could get to be a real problem??
