Choosing between CTC and RTR - a wee bit of counsel?!

Ladies,
Merry Christmas!! It's almost here .....
Would anyone be able or willing to further flesh out the differences between CTC and RTR as it pertains to skill building? I am making a choice for my oldest student. He fits comfortably into RTR and I am leaning in that direction for him but as he hasn't done CTC I'd like to ponder whether or not I'd be glad we went through it. Historically, I have under placed him in an effort to combine which led me to set aside HOD for a season. We are having a very good school year doing "something else" but it has helped us to understand why HOD is a better fit for our family. Boy, am I grateful that we can move back over and settle in without "wondering" ...
AGE: 11
READING: Yes to lit study. He's reading higher level books (5/6 and 6/7) but I'd put him in the 4/5 student book.
WRITING: He is a willing, capable writer! Yes to all of the criteria although we have minimal experience with written narrations. I am confident we CAN build up to that 8-10 sentence mark though it will likely be a challenge at first. The act of writing isn't the challenge; it's the narrating part that may be hard at first. He hasn't had that consistency or gentle working up to a longer narration that comes from going through the guides sequentially. I don't think this issue alone is a reason to bump back a guide because OVERALL his writing skills meet the criteria. We also have IEW experience and he is quite capable of meeting the demands of the Medieval guide.
GRAMMAR: He is currently working in English 5 with Rod & Staff.
MATH: Strong student and clipping along.
BIBLE: Fits well and he's more than ready for the Quiet Time and Purity Study resources. He's been doing an inductive Bible Study independently and his work is very good.
HISTORY: Yes, to all of this. He loves history, reading, listening, doing, etc. The work in the guide will be challenging and enjoyable to him.
Etc. Etc. He just fits this guide solidly.
**As an aside, this boy loves Shakespeare and will enjoy that aspect of the guide.**
In summary, is there ANY reason that I'm not seeing or considering that would lead me to choose CTC over RTR? I am trying to look at placement with Fresh Eyes, as though we've never used HOD or dabbled in it, because I want a "right" placement made as objectively as possible for each child in my family.
Thanks ladies!
