Hi...again

! We already studied astronomy, which is studied in RTR. However, I really want to study geography and inventors. Would we need "A Child's Geography," "Isaac Newton," "Exploring Planet Earth," and "Along Came Galileo"? I know it sounds like a silly question but I don't know what's in the guide and how much we would use these, or if there are other library books that will fulfill the purpose. Thanks!!

You are going to want those books. There are specific activities that go with those books scheduled in the guide as well as experiments every 4th day that tie in to what they have been studying. These activities vary from things like a travel postcard and oral narration and vocabulary work with the Child's Geography book, to answering questions in the Planet Earth book. For the scientist books it is oral narration, written narration and notebooking pages. The other things is since they read these books independently they are at the appropriate reading level for this age. We had already done the astronomy also so I substituted in the Answers in Genesis book for the Apologia Astronomy book. There is a schedule in the appendix for the AIG book. I think I ended up with 2 weeks where we had finished the AIG book, but the Astronomy book was still scheduled so I bought a learn about volcanoes kit and he made a few different types of volcanoes and we studied those for those 2 weeks then picked up with the other books as scheduled in the main part of the guide.

Thanks LynnH!
Would I need "A Child's Geography" since last year we studied things like plate tectonics, atmosphere, volcanoes, etc.? The title of the book led me to believe it was the book needed for geography (such as location of countries, states, etc.). If I don't get this book, is there still going to be a geography lesson that goes along with another source in the RTR package?
Sorry, I'm confused

.
Thanks for your help!

A Child's Geography is in the science box because it deals with the things you mentioned you have already studied. It does deal with atmosphere, volcanoes, weather etc. Geography as far as countries etc is covered in the rotating Geography box and that uses the Map Trek CD and they are filling in maps that go along with the time period they are studying. They also use the World History atlas for some activities.
If you aren't going to do the Astronomy book or the Child's Geography book then you will have to figure out something else for science for the first 24 weeks. At week 25 Along came Galileo is scheduled and then after that is the Isaac Newton book and after that is the Planet Earth book.
