It is official: We are switching to HOD!

We made the decision to make the switch to HOD!! After a few conversations with Mike (thanks for being patient with me!), much thought and many questions on the boards, we are switching! I am excited and nervous about teaching several guides. However, I look forward to delving into skill specific learning activities that are age appropriate. We will be using RTR with DITHOR, LHTH, and will begin Beyond with emerging readers after dd finishes MFW K in a couple of months. I look forward to learning with you!

Hooray! :D I'm so excited for you to begin! I too have depended upon Mike's encouragement and solid advice many times. He truly is an amazing person! I'm so glad you were able to talk with him. He has such a heart for homeschooling with HOD, and his wisdom as a homeschooling dad who has taught HOD - and is currently teaching HOD (to 3 boys - 4 boys if you count piloting things for the next guides with their oldest ds  ) is so helpful. He understands... truly. :D Thanks for sharing your decision here! I will be teaching Beyond and RTR (RTR starting around January, as that's when we'll finish CTC), as well as WG. Right now, we're doing WG, CTC, and Beyond - having a ball! :D God is so good. Can't wait for ya to start!

In Christ,
Julie

I think your dc will really enjoy RTR. I saw your post on another homeschooling board and I think you will like the frequency of activities in HOD and while I haven't done MFW, I have looked at the books it uses and I think the HOD books are more engaging. The other great thing about the activities is that they are easily done, no fancy things required.

Julie,
Thanks for sharing our enthusiasm!! Yes, Mike was truly helpful and patient. I must have asked him over 100 questions over the last few months  . I was thinking about our summer and how we couldn't decide between HOD and another program so I decided to buy DITHOR and LHTH to get my HOD "fix." I also ordered the Boy Option w/God's Design and Basic Package from HOD RTR to use with the other program since it was the same time period. But after 2 months of schooling this year, we decided it was best to just make the full transition over to HOD. I'm excited and can't wait to place my order this week!!

Hi! I have been all over the place trying to figure out what to do  . I really, really wanted to like the other program and I received some really fantastic ideas. It just seemed that after adding so much to the curriculum, I would spend more money and time than if I just went with HOD, since everything is already written. I am loving the idea of the rotating box for RTR! Day 1: Research assignment; Day 2: Geography; Day 3: Timeline; Day 4: Shakespeare Study. This is EXACTLY the sort of thing I was wanting, weekly work that went along with history instead of just reading and narrating. The books used by HOD are excellent! We actually purchased the Basic Package from HOD for Read-Alouds and the Boy Option w/God's Design to go with the other program because the books are just *that* good. I'm glad to hear there aren't any fancy things required to do the assignments. This will save us a lot of time, as I don't have to search around for stuff. A few weeks ago I had to buy 15 boxes of pudding for the other curriculum. The assignment was really fun but dang, now I have 15 packages of pudding because we only needed the boxes  .

WHAT!? That is a lot of pudding. eek. Perfect thing to drop off at the food bank though.

Congratulations on making your decision. Really that is one of the BEST feelings. And even better, getting into the guides and loving it. Enjoying the variety of assignments and great reading. I am often just as eager to read aloud as my children. May The Lord bless your new school changes. We just started DITHOR this week and I am SO happy with it. GOODBYE repetitive novel studies (by companies that shall remain nameless)! I wish I had found DITHOR years ago. Happy to be using HOD now. Welcome to a very special curriculum.
