Using guides out of order?
Using guides out of order?
This is an odd question, I know, but we are currently using a classical curriculum that is on a three year cycle. I'd like to keep our course of study in line with this cycle. Next year, we're studying American HIstory. My daughter fits well into Revival to Revolution (or she will next year when we use it in 7th grade). However, the following year, I'd really love to use Resurrection to Reformation (8th grade) because it just looks like something she'd really enjoy. Is it possible to flip back to the previous year and still challenge her? We're using our own Language Arts, Math, and writing curriculum.

Re: Using guides out of order?
If she places well in Rev to Rev and does that for a year then I would not move her back to RTR after that. Since the upper guides have so much skill building built in with the history and science and with the amount of reading it really would be like taking her back a grade. It would also then really throw you off for the rest of the guides. If you then jumped back up to MTMM it might be tough to get back up to that skill level and you would have to beef it up some for high school. If you decided to jump all the way up to the Geography guide from RTR then that would be a huge jump in skills required.

Re: Using guides out of order?
The HOD guides aren't really made to work that way. While they are pretty flexible, and I think the guides can be tweaked very well for a range of situations, I wouldn't personally advise that. this post gives Carrie's thoughts on the subject.
