Keeping a Record of Read Books

Post by glperky » Wed Sep 11, 2013 6:26 am

I am looking for a fun way to keep a record of the books my boys read and maybe the ones I read to them. Does anyone have any neat ideas?

I have kept a record of them on a 'log' - just a sheet of paper with lines printed leaving room for title, author, and date. A symbol of some type indicating if they liked it, hated it, or neutral. An acquaintance printed up the one I use. Notebook or computer paper will work.
I also (in pencil) mark initials and date at the back of a book for when they finish it. These books, of course, belong to me. It is also my favorite way even though I don't normally allow markings in a book.

I would like to "see" what others do.

Thanks ladies. :) I was trying to come up with a fun way to display them. Such as a read of a family that writes the names of the books on colored index cards and hangs them from the bedroom ceiling. Don't know if I could handle that our not, but trying to think of other fun ways.

So, I haven't tried this, but the idea just came to me!
Have you ever seen Project Life-style books? It is basically a photo album with pockets. You can put scrapbooking cards and photos in the cards. Maybe you could make a book like that for all of the books read. For each book read, they could make a card or two for the book. A card with the basic information and then another card with a quick, simple review. There are some out there that fit in standard binders and others that fit in more "specialty" binder.

Good thing my oldest is only 5.5 and not reading independently yet. I can still do this! I might start it with your read-alouds this year and add in the ER books too (which we will start next month) :)

How about photocopying the book cover and making some notations (back) as to like/dislike, memorable characters, quotes, etc., You can either laminate ($$) the pages and make a book of sorts, or just 3 hole punch and place them in a binder. I just might do this myself. you can get as elaborate as you'd like.
