Foerster's Algebra I question

Hi ladies,

I was looking at the Foerster's set listed here with the Geography program. The book pictured is the Algebra/Trig book, which is the Algebra II book, I believe. Foerster's Algebra I book says "Algebra I" on it. I just want to be sure that this set is for Algebra I before I try to order it. Carrie?? Or, anyone else who has ordered through this site?

Thanks!
Liz :)

PS My kids are now older than listed, but I can't figure out how to change my signature line.

I can't help with your ordering question, but I can with the signature line. At the top, left of the board under board index, you will see User Control Panel. Click on that. Once you are there look at the tabs and choose Profile. Under profile there is a link to edit signature. Hopefully that will get you there and you can then edit your signature.:D

For the ordering question, I would just give HOD a call. :D

Bump. Does anyone know this? I need Algebra 1, not the Trig book.

Thanks! :)

I'm pretty sure when the information for the new guide was put on the site, the picture for the Algebra II text was accidentally put on instead of the one for Algebra I, since all of the information shared about the text relates to the Algebra I text. For example, the table of contents listed is the one from Algebra I, rather than Algebra II.

I think you would be safe to order. HOD has only researched to the point of recommending through Algebra 1. Several of us are waiting to see what the Geometry suggestion(s) will be.

Liz,

We only carry Foerster's Algebra I so that is what you'll get when ordering from HOD. I'll check into the image. If it's the wrong one, we'll get it fixed. Sorry for the confusion! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Please forgive my tagging on to this question with another one! Will HOD continue to use Foerster's Algebra for levels higher than Algebra 1? Or will there be a different option for Geometry and Algebra 2?

I know this may not be information that is available yet, but it's been a question that I've been wondering for a while now. . . . thanks! :D

Lisa,

Foerster did not write a Geometry text, so we are looking at other options for Geometry. Foerster does have an Algebra II/Trigonometry text that we are looking at continuing with for that level of math. He also has a Pre-Calculus text. Math Without Borders DVD lessons are available for all of the Foerster texts I mentioned above. So, we do like that option and are seriously pondering it for the future. :D

For those families who may use VideoText Algebra, Algebra II is included in VideoText. VideoText also has a Geometry/Trigonometry set as well. So that is another possible option for those families who prefer that approach. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Carrie, thanks for that information on Foerster! I knew they had the Algebra II/Trig level and Pre-Calculus, but didn't realize they didn't have a Geometry course. Can you share any thoughts you're looking at for Geometry yet? I know it's early in the game for the next level to be shared, and I'm sure you deserve a much needed bit of relaxing time since your busy time of getting the new guide out, so I understand if it's not the proper time yet. I'm just curious, as we're trying to determine our math path for the next few years. I would much prefer to stick with the same publisher through high school for math, but understand that sometimes that's not always possible. Again, thank you for your attention to this! :)

I love the looks of the Geography guide and greatly look forward to what's to come this year from HOD! Blessings for a great school year for your family!

Lisa,

We have many geometry texts we're looking at here right now and no firm decisions yet. I do like the look of the Chakerian text Geometry: A Guided Inquiry right now, but if we did go that route I don't think that we would not recommend using it without the Math Without Borders DVDs; as they seem to add much to the program and really help to explain the concepts. :D

We'll see though, as math is one of those areas that requires much pondering to reach a firm decisions including many revisits to the text to really think and go through how concepts are presented, much thinking about how well a text would work in a homeschool environment, along with deciding what support is needed to be able to utilize any text well.

It will be a process to come to a decision about Geometry that could take quite awhile! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
