OT: What to use to sharpen colored pencils

I am finding out that you should NOT use electric or crank pencil sharpeners to sharpen your colored pencils. Does anyone know what you should use? The little hand ones you can get for a dollar or so seem to not do the job as the lead always falls out of the pencil. We use colored pencils a lot for HOD and need to know what to use. I went through two electric sharpeners last year until I found out about the culprit that was ruining our sharpeners . Thanks!

The best thing I have found is a hand held Prisma sharpener. It is black and kind of a torpedo shape.

We use a small metal hand held pencil sharpener. It definitely does not work to sharpen them in my electric pencil sharpener. I think we bought this type from Barry Stebbing when he came for some art classes my children attended, but we recently bought a new one from Wal Mart. Here is a link to allow you to see what I am talking about:

I got a hand held sharpener at our local craft store, it was specifically for colored pencils. It was $6, but it's made in Germany. Works great!

Thank you! I can't believe I wasted all that money on pencil sharpeners just because I sharpened colored pencils! Ugh! Lessons learned! :|
