Preparing question....

Right now I am undecided....I am either going to use HOD Preparing OR MFWCtG... I know there is a lot of "activity" in the MFWCTG...hands on projects etc...but not sure how much is in the HOD Preparing. My ds LOVES the hands on activities that MFW offers so that will weigh heavily in my decision.
So, can anyone tell me what types and how many activities are scheduled into HOD Preparing?
Thanks
Debbie

Hi Deb!
Well, the only one who can really answer your question is at convention right now

so I would say, look at the sample and then do a search of this message board....Carrie did talk about the activities on a post or two. There is something planned for each week (I think) but I don't know exactly what type of things they are. She will be back soon, and I'm sure she'll be happy to help you!

Carrie stated this board is FOR HOD users. I think we need to be respectful of that. You can go to homeschoolreviews.com and let your hair down and talk shop all day long and compare away!
Carly
My question is specifically about HOD PREPARING....NOT MFW..

I understand this board is for HOD users...I understand and respect that. I am NOT looking for a comparison of the 2 curriculums. I am simply inquiring about "hands on" acitivites within the Preparing volume. What types, how often? Now I understand that probably no one but Carrie can answer my question. Hopefully she will see this and respond. If not, I can try and contact her directly.
Thanks
Debbie

Debbie - I didn't think your asking about the activities was off topic at all.
I was under the impression that it is not just for users, but those wanting info about the programs as well. Hopefully Carrie will clear this up for us.
Now, the question about Saxon and TT *I* thought was off topic, b/c that has nothing whatsoever to do with HOD!

Debbie,
I'm sure Carrie will get to all the posts eventually, but this may give you a taste.
http://www.heartofdakota.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=1405 THis post has nothing to do with your question, but if you scroll down to Carrie's reply today, it answers what you're asking about Preparing...at least a little. It sounds to me like there are a lot of hands-on activities. Fun, fun!

I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes for those who get to use it this year as we'll be diving into it next.
Hope that helps!

Hi Deb!!
Welcome to the HOD board!!! You came to the right place to ask your questions!!

I hope you weren't offended, and I am sure that Carly just misunderstood your question. Please read the post that was linked above. I am sooooo excited about hands on that Carrie has scheduled in Preparing, and I think you will be too.

This board is full of a lot of fun and sweet ladies so hang around, we are glad you are here!!

Debbie,
I'm just working through the board now that we're back from convention, so it's taken me awhile to get to your post! First off, we're glad you're here.
Secondly, I think I posted a few projects earlier on the board today, but there is a weekly hands-on project in Preparing.. that is spread out over 3 days. The final day is a lesson on written narrations each week. But, on the 4th day, we do still cover hands-on by having the experiment in science scheduled on that day. At HOD we balance your days so that you have hands-on, written, visual, and audio every day (and those are scheduled proportionately to one another, so you never have TOO much of any one area on any one day)!
A few more projects in "Preparing..." include mixing colors to paint the rainbow complete with primary and secondary colored background, making a clay cartouche of Queen Hatshepsut's name, making a clay map of the river valley, creating a crook, making a 3-D paper pyramid with glistening sugar for the limestone sides (and a shadow effect), making a puzzle of the 12 tribes of Israel, making a name placard that explains the meaning of your child's name, painting a Greek amphora (vase), making a time clock of the crucifixion of Christ, making a sweet smelling Christian fish symbol, creating a laurel wreath crown, designing a stained glass window picture, making a spice chart, producing an engraving (which was used before photography), mapping the Confederate and Union states, making a zeppelin, and designing an Olympic brochure.
In addition there are weekly science experiments!
Hope that helps!
Blessings,
Carrie
