DS5 is learning subtraction in Singapore for K-LHFHG. I'm just wondering if it's okay to leave half a page unfinished if he fully understands a concept. As an example, today, we were finishing the last two pages of the counting-back subtraction section. He already fully grasps the concept so this was just review. We did a few on the first page and then went to the next page (vertical problems) and did several of those. I didn't see any reason to make him finish all 10-12 problems on each page since he already knows it so well and I didn't want him to get bored. But afterward, I was wondering if skipping problems will hinder him learning his math facts...or if he'd be missing something else I'm not thinking of. Just curious what others do when their kid grasps a concept quickly and doesn't require much repetition. Thanks!!

This is a double-edges sword. You don't want to bore him and make him not like math. But, at the same time, practice leads to memorization (which is important in math facts). How about doing a few of the other problems each day as a warm up?

Is this the new LHFHG math or the old one?

In the old one the problems might have been repetitive, but there weren't too many to finish in 5 minutes. Generally explaining a concept and doing the problems took less than 5 minutes.

Compared to most other math curriculum, there are so few problems in Singapore that I would hesitate to not have them finish a page.

That being said, we don't do the pages that have the kids measure or weigh household objects or other things like that.

I use Saxon. But once a concept is mastered, move on.

I'm with MomToJGJE - Singapore has way fewer problems than a lot of other math programs I have seen and heard about. I don't suppose it is a hindrance to stop if they already understand. I tend to get lazy with the activities when I know my kid already understands, but they still do the whole page. My kids like it, easy stuff makes them feel good about themselves. And I never felt like it was so many that it would become really boring.
