Need help with what to order!
Need help with what to order!
This will be our first year using HOD, we finished MFW kinder back in May. I was looking at doing Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory and ordering the economy package along with the math 1-A and 1-B and the DIHR for reading since she is already reading well. My question is do I need to order the teacher & student manuals and the suggested book set and then also the reading interest set plus bible? I'm very confused!! Thanks in advance for your help:)

To do the guide as written you will need to order the science book that is included in the basic package as well as the "Morning Bells" devotional. The CD could be optional, but makes learning the memory verse fun. If you plan on doing the storytime part of the guide you will need to choose a book set from the Deluxe package. There are 3 choices in Beyond, boys, girls, or classic. For DITHOR you will need the teacher's manual, student workbook (level 2/3), and a student bookpack. You would not order the emerging reader set or Bible book.

Re: Need help with what to order!
By reading well, what kinds of books is she reading? DITHOR is 2nd-3rd grade level books. So, if you look at beginning reader books with Level __ on the front, they are Level 4 and higher. Emerging Readers start with Level 2 and go to 4. So, as a 1st grader, ER is probably where she falls unless he is WAY ahead on reading.
As for what to order:
Economy Package
Basic Package (or the science, math, and devotional)
Deluxe Package (one of the three sets OR use your library if you have most of the books)
Emerging Reader set or DITHOR (again unless you can find most of the books at the library or in your home)
FInally, make sure on the placement chart that Beyond is the right place. 1st graders often place into Beyond or Little Hearts for His Glory. If you do one guide a year, LHFHG is actually the 1st grade guide. But, some families use Beyond for 1st grade, giving them some wiggle room later if they need to go half speed.

Re: Need help with what to order!
Just to clarify DITHR vs Emerging Reader (ER). Emerging Readers is for children who have finished phonics instruction and can read most early-reader type books. This helps children on the transition from learning to read to true literature study. You can start in the middle if your daughter is above some of the books, but there are comprehension questions with the books (the schedule and questions are in the Beyond guide), and by the end she should be reading short chapter books fairly easily.
If she is already reading short chapter books easily, and you think she is capable of talking through things like setting, characters, time, and analysing the stories for different Biblical character qualities and things like that, then she is ready for DITHR. You would not need the Emerging Reader set and the Bible that goes with that, but you would need some storytime books and some DITHR books (storytime books are higher reading level because you read them to her, and there is analysis in the guide that goes with them, but the genres and some of the activities coincide, she would do the same ones in DITHR if you do DITHR straight through). You can possibly get some of these books from the library, or you can buy the set(s) from HOD.
