Just wanted to share with you all that today, we officially started school at our house.... 2 sons (in 5th and 6th grades) and my girl in first with LHFHG. She has special sensory needs but the boxes that Carrie provides are great. Was able to just do a little at a time with my little wiggle worm (interspersed with short play and sensory activities) and yet we're still finished by 11:00 AM. (she only got out of bed around 8:30).

Thank You, Lord for a smooth day, and thank you Carrie for such a wonderful, simple to use curriculum! To top off the first day of homeschool to be extra special for her(she was in public K last year), I painted her face....as a purple and pink tiger....which of course she loved. :D

So excited that your first day went well! We are starting our 3rd week with LHFHG and LHTH and my dc are LOVING it! HOD is such a wonderful, fun, and Christ centered curriculum. And did I mention that I am enjoying our school time as much as my dc? And what a great way to start off your homeschool year....my dc would have loved to have their face painted!

Congrats! I'm looking forward to soon starting this with my own sensory son (6 years old). Would love to connect with another sensory mom using the same program, if you want to send me a message!

Okay, SolaAcademy and mshanson - I tried PM you and can't figure it out. I am so sorry. It would be nice to connect with another sensory mom.... My daughter is definitely a sensory "seeker" rather than a sensory "avoider". Shes into things all the time. So far in using LHFHG (which has only been for a few days) I have found that in reading Reddy Fox she pays attention if I "draw" (ha! :) ) little stick figures to represent the various animals and little props that are in the story, (like a bridge, woods, etc.) I also told her to make a movie in her head about the story and I'm using different voices to represent the various characters. So far, she's paid attention quite well and can answer the questions. (O! She usually has a fidget in her hand at the same time)

So far, I'm finding that variety is my friend. Do one to 3 boxes, then break for a sensory break. I just have her run around outside, or I do joint compressions. She's good at hulu hooping - am going to try that next. She's picking stuff up though. Today, she told Daddy all of the continents without even looking at a map. Yay!

Anyway, be encouraged. Last year in public kindergarten, she would come home very frustrated almost to the point of tears, because she would be so worn out and they'd make her do so much "paragraph" writing, when she wasn't even taught how to form her letters yet. (by the way, am using Handwriting without Tears for her as that was recommended by her OT. She can actually stay on the lines with that. With the primary lined paper with 3 lines, she literally didn't know where to put the letters. Too confusing. The two lines help her understand more clearly exactly where the letters are supposed to be. I can see a drastic difference. This year so far her letters aren't floating above and below...way below :) the lines) HOD is so short for the little ones, and so far she has even begged to do "more" school. Y'all will have to share what works for you as time goes on. Would really be interested....
