Drawn into Heart of Reading question

Post by slavila » Fri Jun 13, 2008 6:46 am

Can the different levels of DITHOR be used for the same child more than once? For example, can I use the 2/3 level for 2nd grade for my son and then again in 3rd grade with different books?

Also, has anyone done the emerging readers for 2 years, using the supplemental selections for the 2nd year? Or just stretched the emerging readers set over 2 years?

I hope my questions make sense!

TIA

I am using the emergent reader set now and we are reading the books and the optional books. This is helping my son gain confidence in reading books with more words on the page.

DITHOR students books are written to be used over two years. You do the 9 genres over the two year period. But I would think you could do all 9 genres in a year and repeat with other books the next year. My understanding is that the higher level student books require more writting.

Sarah,

Karen did a wonderful job of answering your questions. I agree that DITHR is meant to be stretched out over 2 years, doing however many genres suit your schedule one year and the rest of the genres the next year. :D

The Emerging Reader Schedule could also be stretched out if you desire, but the original intent was for it to take one year. The optional book titles each week were ones we just added for extra reading at our house.

Blessings,
Carrie
